Why x86

When to pay for x86

ARM is cheaper, so why offer x86 at all? Because some software only exists as x86-64. If your stack depends on any of these, choose an x86 tier (Comet to Pulsar) and it works with zero fuss.

Common x86-only cases

  • wkhtmltopdf: the PDF renderer ships prebuilt x86 binaries with no maintained arm64 build.
  • Mautic: the official container image is published for x86-64 only.
  • Proprietary vendor agents: closed-source monitoring, DRM and licensing binaries are usually x86-only.
  • Older Docker images: many predate arm64 and have no multi-arch variant to pull.

Hostinger posts a lower sticker on more RAM by pricing on long promotions (KVM 2 renews around US$14.99 to US$15) and overcommitting shared cores; our US$16 is the flat, everyday price for two cores you are not fighting for. Prefer managed? A managed Photon is US$20 a month for the same two cores and 4 GB, where a comparable managed 4 GB stack on Cloudways (running on DigitalOcean) is about US$54. Check current provider pricing before you rely on it.

Compute questions, answered

Which should I pick, ARM or x86?+

If your software runs on arm64, and most modern Linux stacks do, ARM gives you the same performance for less. Choose x86 only when you depend on x86-only binaries such as wkhtmltopdf, the official Mautic image, proprietary vendor agents, or old Docker images with no arm64 build.

Where are your servers?+

We run six regions across Europe, the United States and Asia-Pacific. Dedicated-vCPU (ccx) tiers are available in all six. x86 (cpx) tiers run in Europe and Singapore. ARM (cax) tiers are Europe only.

ARM says limited stock. What happens if it is sold out?+

ARM capacity is finite and Europe only, so it can run short. When it does, you reserve at the listed price and we provision your server automatically the moment capacity frees up, with nothing more for you to do. You are only billed once it is live.

What is the difference between unmanaged and managed?+

The hardware is identical. Unmanaged gives you root and you operate the box. Managed adds OS patching, monitoring, off-box backups and our support team, for about 2.75 times the price.

Are these real dedicated cores?+

On the dedicated-vCPU (ccx) range, yes: physical cores are reserved to you, so nothing else competes for them. ARM and x86 tiers share cores, which is fine for most workloads but does not guarantee zero contention the way ccx does.

Can I move up the ladder later?+

Yes. You can resize within the cloud ranges, and step up to dedicated servers, storage or GPU when you outgrow shared silicon. Talk to us or ask Kora to plan the path.

Do prices include GST?+

No, every price on this page is ex-GST. New Zealand customers pay 15% GST added at checkout. Customers billed outside New Zealand pay no NZ GST. Prices are shown in NZD here; your currency is shown at checkout.
